Just Don't Say It

[Posted by Ted H]

Not sure if this one was ever posted here before. Since I lack any content anyway, might as well post it now...Been a while since I shot a real poem anyway...

--------------------------------------------

[Just Don't Say It]

One might make you happy
But the other will have you sigh
Run with who gets you soaring
Yet never lets you fly
But just don't say it, since it wouldn't be right.

And ask me why I'm wondering
We never seek what we find
I'll likely respond by musing
The universe was never so kind
But just don't say it, since you can't stand to fight.

Another will keep me secret
She didn't want the show
Check behind the façade
That she didn't want someone to know
But just don't say it, since it's still not alright.

Everything that you wanted
Sadly, I missed the hype.
Everything that I wanted
Too bad I was never your type
But just don't say it, since I'm lacking the sight.

And when I find my graveyard
One day when we're old
You should take a glance at the wall
Read the writing I wasn't told
But just don't say it, since it won't be alright.

Just don't say it, when we've both said goodnight.

Front and Center

[Posted by Ted H]

I have no idea how this poem wasn't posted yet. I searched the archives a few times and came up empty, so I'm just assuming that I never got around to it despite it being one of my older works that I'm pretty happy with.
So I guess I've found a good bit of filler for now...

Fun facts: "Fat Lady Rolling Down a Steep Hill" was published in some dinky lil book back in 2006 that you'll probably never find. I have a copy of that collection. About a year later, I authorized "Front and Center" to get a similar honor, but I didn't bother getting a copy.

--------------------------------------------------------------

[Front and Center]

Stand front and center
Yet turn around.
Don't be reserved
Yet make no sound.
Be steadfast and strong
Yet not overbearing.
Don't be so worrisome
Yet always be caring.
Try to keep loose
Yet always say 'mister.'
Don't stand in shadows
Yet do like your sister.
Never back down
Yet never fight.
Go find your friends
Yet stay within sight.
Go and seek love
Yet never forget,
If they're not approved
You shall regret.
Your whole life awaits,
Many paths to pursue,
Yet only make the choice
Preordained for you.

Update goes here

[Posted by Ted H]

A good portion of my shit is in boxes, and the vast majority of my free time is spent painting...

...so yeah, Pure Human is kinda on the bench for a minute...

Here's something random to fill the void!

-------------------------------------------------------------
[Shambles]

As I sift through shambles
I miss those days

When nothing meant anything
Anything meant nothing

Those days are gone
Replaced by days gone by

Familiar pains replaced by unwanted
Unending joy replaced by scheduled

A laugh taken for granted
Now cherished and rare

Concepts once foreign
Now prescribed their dose

What were you before?
What was I then?

Is your picture a liar?
Or I the fool?

I can't fix you.

But I'll try to hold those pieces together.

Party

[Posted by Ted H]

Whoops...between work and an overly self-involving set of applications, I've found myself with no time to write this week...and since I didn't win the lotto either...so deep into my vaults we go!

Next week...maybe.

This was written for the perspective of someone who isn't me...which should be obvious since it's about a girl at a party getting hit on...just clarifying is all...

--------------------------------------------------------

[Party]

Uh-oh again he will come
His heavy steps like a drum
Stumbling about just like a bum
Smelling much like vodka and rum

He’ll try what he can
While staring at my chest
To bring me down to his place
And let his dick do the rest

His advances are useless
His jokes are just dumb
Now he tries to impress me
By some trick with his thumb

I want to turn away
Because he’s starting to stink
But I dare not look elsewhere
Lest he doctor my drink

Now he’s walking away
To replace his empty can
But soon he is replaced
By a new drunk man

He lets out a huge grin
When he realizes I’m a girl
Just before he bends over
And proceeds to hurl

He seems alright after
As he gives me a wave
Just as the party host screams
“Get the fuck out Dave!”

So that drunk is gone
Replaced by the last
As I sarcastically say
“I’m having a blast.”

Allen Bee Cautious

[Posted by Ted H]

In a continuing effort to keep this blog from being 100% zombies/unholy creatures/apocalypse shit, I'm gonna put something up that is more, non-R rated.
...Instead we have another entry into the "Why Ted shouldn't be allowed to write children's books" series.
The zombies at the end are purely aesthetic to the conclusion and add nothing to the main story, so I can still get away with that...

This was done back in the day, part of a creative writing exercise. If you fail to see what the challenge was for this 26 sentence piece, then kindly exit this blog and go back to third grade.

Something a little more...substantial to come next week...maybe even a poem...

-----------------------------------------------------------

Allen never cared much for the bees flying about. Bees usually just left him alone, and he did the same. Carelessly they would ignore each others existence until Allen’s friend, Danny came by. Danny, unlike Allen, despised the bees. Every time he saw one, he talked about how he would one day get rid of them. Finally one day, he told Allen he had devised a plan to rid himself of the bees. Gleefully he showed Allen a special rock he had found. He hurled the rock as hard as he could at a nearby hive. Instantly, the hive erupted with hundreds of angry bees. Just as Allen realized what was going on, the bees had overtaken him. Kicking and screaming, he tried to run away. Looking about, he soon saw Danny running to a nearby lake. Moving as fast as he could, Allen ran to the lake as well. Not a moment too soon, they jumped into the water. Once they were safe from the bees, Allen started scolding Danny for his foolish deed. Playing innocent, Danny said that his rock had nothing to do with the attack and that the bees were just naturally mean. Questioning his friend, Allen went to leave. Right as he got out, the bees started attacking again, sending Allen back into the water. Soon it was night and neither boy could leave the lake without fear of a bee attack. The boys soon grew cold from being in the water so late at night. Under the late night moon, the boys decided to make a run for it. Very quickly they jumped out of the lake and ran. While running, Danny saw the lights of his house. “X marks the spot!” he cried while pointing home. Yelling is what his mother did when she saw them finally come in after being out so late. Zombies were waiting for them there, which really made no sense at all.

I Need A Smoke

[...Posted by Ted H]

Playoffs mean never having to say there will be an update...at least from me.
Lucky you though, since I found another relic from years gone by. A poem written when it was cool to smoke...ya know, before it became the new black.

"Our Town of the Dead" Act II might come next week...or maybe some little lecture Im writing about some certain playoff situation...
still pissed off over it by the way...

--------------------------------------

[I Need A Smoke]

I need a smoke
This is no joke
The moment to seize
To go out and freeze
And smoke away
All of this day
Of which has been shit
I'm throwing a fit
Cuz now I'm in hell
My pack is a shell
Son of a bitch
I'm starting to twitch
I've been out since six
And I need my fix
So if you don't mind my poke
Could I please bum a smoke?

Weed From A Can

[...Posted by Ted H]

Aw yeah. Dr Deuce is in the house...
Anyone know an illustrator?

...........................

[Weed From a Can]

I am Dan
Dan the Man

- That Dan the Man
- That Dan the Man
- I do not trust that Dan the Man

Do you smoke weed from a can?

- I do not smoke weed from a can
- I will not smoke it, Dan the Man

Will you smoke it with a beer?
Will you smoke it with a queer?

- I will not smoke it with a beer
- I will not smoke it with a queer
- I do not smoke weed from a can
- I will not smoke it, Dan the Man

Will you smoke it in a loft?
Will you smoke it someplace soft?

- I will not smoke it in a loft
- I will not smoke it someplace soft
- I will not smoke it with a beer
- I will not smoke it with a queer
- I do not smoke weed from a can
- I will not smoke it, Dan the Man

Will you smoke it in the dark?
Or someplace quiet like a park?

- I will not smoke it in the dark
- I will not smoke it in a park
- I will not smoke it in a loft
- I will not smoke it someplace soft
- I will not smoke it with a beer
- I will not smoke it with a queer
- I do not smoke weed from a can
- I will not smoke it, Dan the Man

Would you, could you, with a snack?
Would you, could you, in the back?

- I would not, could not, with a snack
- I would not, could not, in the back

Then how about up on the roof ?
To keep you from being so aloof?

- I would not, could not, with a snack
- Not on the roof, or in the back
- I will not smoke it in the dark
- I will not smoke it in a park
- I will not smoke it in a loft
- I will not smoke it someplace soft
- I will not smoke it with a beer
- I will not smoke it with a queer
- I do not smoke weed from a can
- I will not smoke it, Dan the Man

How about while in a jail?
Or when you come to post my bail?

- I will not smoke it in a jail
- And I would not, could not post your bail
- I would not, could not, with a snack
- Not on the roof, or in the back
- I will not smoke it in the dark
- I will not smoke it in a park
- I will not smoke it in a loft
- I will not smoke it someplace soft
- I will not smoke it with a beer
- I will not smoke it with a queer
- I do not smoke weed from a can
- I will not smoke it, Dan the Man

You should smoke it to blow off some steam?
It would defiantly leave you feeling quite keen.

- I do not want to blow off steam
- I do not need to feel quite keen
- I will not smoke it in a jail
- And I would not, could not post your bail
- I would not, could not, with a snack
- Not on the roof, or in the back
- I will not smoke it in the dark
- I will not smoke it in a park
- I will not smoke it in a loft
- I will not smoke it someplace soft
- I will not smoke it with a beer
- I will not smoke it with a queer
- I do not smoke weed from a can
- I will not smoke it, Dan the Man

Then how about hot-boxing in a car?
Or smoking it secretly in a bar?

- I will not smoke it in a car
- I will not smoke it in a bar
- I do not want to blow off steam
- I do not need to feel quite keen
- I will not smoke it in a jail
- And I would not, could not post your bail
- I would not, could not, with a snack
- Not on the roof, or in the back
- I will not smoke it in the dark
- I will not smoke it in a park
- I will not smoke it in a loft
- I will not smoke it someplace soft
- I will not smoke it with a beer
- I will not smoke it with a queer
- I do not smoke weed from a can
- I will not smoke it, Dan the Man

Could you smoke it in a shop?
Or be daring while near a cop?

- I will not smoke it in a shop
- I dare not smoke it near a cop

You can smoke it on the run!
Try it, try it! It’s quite fun!

- I will not smoke it on the run
- I do not think it would be quite fun
- I will not smoke it in a shop
- I dare not smoke it near a cop

Will you smoke it once just to see?
You will like it believe you me!

- If it will make you go away
- Then I will only smoke it for today

………..

- …………….

……….

- I can not believe my blood shot eyes
- Everything I said before have been lies
- I do like smoking weed from a can
- An enjoyable endeavor indeed, Dan the Man
- I could smoke it on the run
- It would seem to be quite fun
- I want to smoke it in a shop
- Or perhaps be daring near a cop
- I want to hot-box in a car
- I want to smoke it in a bar
- I definitely need to blow off steam
- Smoking this would leave me keen
- I want to smoke it while in jail
- And would not hesitate to post your bail
- I can smoke it with a snack
- On the roof or in the back
- I could smoke it in the dark
- Or somewhere quiet like a park
- I could smoke it in a loft
- Or smoke it someplace soft
- I want to smoke it with a beer
- I want to smoke it with a queer
- I do like smoking weed from a can
- Thank you, thank you, Dan the Man.

The End!

Don't

[...Posted by Ted H]

I'll just say right now: They cant all be winners.
Anyway, crazy busy week so you get some backlogged oldie Ive had stashed for just such an occasion. I had planned to either write up some uber-intelligent analysis of Romero or a uber-retarded rant over circumstances surrounding suicide, but Ive had literally 0 free time between 2 jobs this week. Whatever. No biggie. Maybe next week.
Im sure to have loads of free time next week...HA!

It'll heal.
It'll pass.
It'll drop.

Red Dot Martyrs

[...Posted by Ted H]

Knew a guy in college in a band of the same name. I was also a DJ at the time and played a lot of his music. Good shit. Just putting that out there.

...............................

[Red Dot Martyrs]

Small pools of red
In five distinct spots
At the end of the bottle
From here they are dots
They have just one purpose
They have but one chance
To pull us away
From this sleep like trance
Many came before
Have fallen in vain
For still I remain here
Continue to drain
But the dots do not waiver
Refuse to take leave
Forgetting past failures
Remaining naïve
When their moment comes
They’ll rise up and fight
To keep us all going
Well into the night
And succeed or fail
What they were to me
Martyrs for my sake
So I may be free.

Twenty Days

[...Posted by Ted H]

Worked dawn2dusk most of the previous week. No time to do any writing related bull....that mean I dont have an update this week? HA!

I have nothing new. Kinda wanted to see how far I could run with that crazy time machine guy, but roof jumping kinda took priority. What now? Now you get something from waaaaaay back. something mad old I wrote back when I was experimenting with different rhyme structure.

.......................................

Twenty Days

Twenty days till I return
So much time to write
Twenty days to survive
Up till then I fight
Twenty days to prepare
Until I see the light
Twenty days will you appear?
By that time just might
Twenty days I will await
For such a sore fought sight
Twenty days may never come
And stay eternal night.

Grave

[...Posted by Ted H]

Gonna be quick on this. As I type, Im also playing Mass Effect 2. Ive got my guy sitting at a bar, pounding shots until I finish here...currently hes downed about a few dozen and he cant be too far from passing out, let alone shoot a gun strait.

 ----------------------------

 "Grave"

Lying here since your passing
eyes blindly toward the sky
return at the hint of your presence,
infinite rise with so few words
taken down by just an action
a constant reminder of who you are,
left deeper now from anticipation
resoundingly darker than before
and yet,
do it again, since we’re both willing.

This is an untitled.

[... Posted by Ryan]

So yea. Back to posting poems. The idea of a sabbatical to focus on my stories didn't really do anything. My stories still aren't done and poems are just so amazingly fun. This one, well it's a little older. It's about heartbreak. This one was about me. Now I don't normally write poems about me, but this one needed to come out. And it's good, I think. So I'm posting it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Untitled.

The fog of doubt,
Replaced the shadow of truth,
Your presence,
Once did prove,

The blinding sun,
Recedes and enlightens,
And in one moment,
I could feel my knees weaken,

Fog has turned solid,
And I can longer trust,
That the emotion once known,
Was ever more than lust,

Doubt,
What you renewed,
I refuse,
To grasp that which you imbued,

And stars guide my love,
Though, not alone,
I still look above for trails,
To lead me back to one,

I look back,
Cleansed of your influence,
And realize it was more fun,
Than anything of conscience,

Whole lies and no truths,
The base of all of our time,
But I never lied to you,
We could have been divine,

Return to the life you held previously,
And I shall remain in mine,
I hold steadily alone,
In a world of my own design,

Alone I mourn your indecision,
Your inability to let yourself be happy,
But you're free now, in your insecurity,
I won't be here for your convenience anymore.

Kind of a Slam Poet

[... Posted by Ryan]

Well, this is kind of a slam poem. For those of you who don't know SLAM it's basically poetry meant to be spoken word. Poetry with true rhythm, great pentameter. And it has to express something worth saying out loud. Instead of picking a topic I just wrote... Until I couldn't think of anything else to write. But here goes.

"The Floor"

It’s where my jaw fell,
When I thought about a moment alone,
Where all that was empty,
Could possibly be full.
Floored,
Like the once happy,
But now sad,
The once open,
But now mad,
Like the twang sound,
Of a country boy,
Who came home a city man,

Floored,
Like the possibilities,
I once saw that are all gone,

Sprawling, Grasping, Clutching,
For one more handle,
To bear the reigns in,
Once more,
I’d like to clutch,
Shift it all on down to neutral,
And bring these horses to a calmer pace,

But it’s on the floor,
Where my jaw lies,
Where my surprise hides,
And why I can’t even seem to try,
But it shows blank in my eyes,
The way I think this will go tonight,

Floored,
My thoughts of,
How the world goes,
Of how this poem flows,
And the wild passion throes,
Because who in the world knows?
I could be a reader, a rhymer,
A preacher, A tyrant,
And you’d all still say the same thing,
Because he’s a man without soul,
And you all want to know,
Who really truly knows,
Well that’s no one,
And that’s the truth,

So we’ll keep pain inside,
And remember all the lies,
That the world tends to spread as news,
And I’ll keep on the floor,
Because if you look for the clues,
You’ll see that the floor is the place,
When you ever want to displace,
Those feelings and thoughts of the blues,

Fly

[...posted by Ted H]

Sick...again. I've had all of 3 or 4 actual healthy days this year. It's awesome, really. I'll probably get healthy on wednesday, which is when the entire northeast is suppose ot be buried under [x]inches of snow, which Ill be shoveling, alone, and will leave me sick again.
I'm exhausted and unable to focus...Ive spaced out on more than a few facebook/aim convos this week and writing anything useful has gone out the window.

...so you get this instead...

..................................

"Fly"

I jumped out the window
And found I could fly
I soared strait on up
And out into the sky

I passed a flock of birds
And some ducks heading south
I tried so very hard
To keep bugs out of my mouth

I felt just like Icarus
Or that guy Clark Kent
I’ll fly so very far
Long before I’m spent

I’ll fly through clouds near stars
Deep into the night
You’ll sit on the ground and marvel
At my amazing flight

Now back to reality
Where I’ll be hitting the ground
As I’m about to land I wonder
Will I make a sound?

Watch me from a distance
Be sure not to miss
Remember when I hit the ground
To blow me a kiss

Wake up again I’m flying
Up high again once more
Pale, dead, transparent
And still yet I soar

And once again I’m falling
At the sound of some bell
For I committed suicide
And now I go to hell.

It's been a couple of days.

[... Posted by Ryan]

Hey Everyone. I just realized it's been a couple of days. So I figured that since I haven't finished any of my stories and I don't want to post them yet I'll throw an old poem on here. I was at a club last night, and I pretty much had one of the funnest times of my life and it reminded me how much better things have gotten since I wrote this poem that I'm posting. So I hope everyone enjoys.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Friend...

I’m sitting alone,
Scared…
Scared of what tomorrow may bring,
Abandoned,
By hope, thought, memory,
By friends, those who were there for me,

I’m sitting alone,
But I can clearly see,
My friend on the table,
Sitting right next to me.

My friend is tall,
Yet, he’s very short,

He wears a designer label,
But it doesn’t cover his whole body,

He has a long neck,
And a very open mind,

He has a bubbly personality,
Even more so than mine,

He likes glass and always arrives in style,
People cheer for him,
At every Boilermaker Mile,

Alone,
Sitting here by myself,
Lost in spirit, to atone,

Yet,
My friends are sitting in cold,
Just begging me to give them a home,

My friend,
Well, he has a few friends.
They like to travel together.

They come in packs,
Sometimes 6,
Sometimes in 30 racks,

Right now he’s my only friend,
And now… I’m all alone.

Dry Erase

[...posted by Ted H]

Got a couple other awesome writers on the way, folks, so our quartet will soon become a sextet (which sounds so much better, dont you agree?)
Meanwhile, enjoy this little bit while I decide what long term project to do here next...

"Dry Erase"

A simple task
Easily lost
Forgotten by a drunken stumble
The message gone
Save for fragments
Impossible to decipher
Remember it not
No longer means a thing.

An Oldie

Just a note here:
I haven't written any decent poetry in over four years. I wrote this one after reading a vampire novel that was based on Jack the Ripper. I like the dark lore and history so putting them together in one book was the perfect bit of inspiration.

For the time being, I'll probably only have older stuff, as I'm still working on writing new stuff.

New Orleans After Dark
Written July 24, 2004

Empty streets,
Full bars,
Jazz trumpets,
The scent of ale.
It's all normal.
It's New Orleans
After dark.

Young, fresh blood.
He craves innocence
That is gathered at
The tourist attractions.
It's all normal.
It's New Orleans
After Dark.

Death, a corpse.
Crowds gather.
He had his fill
And the results lay in tatters.
It's all normal.
The vampire struck again
In New Orleans after dark.

Fat Lady Rolling Down A Steep Hill

[...posted by Ted H]

Fat Lady Rolling Down A Steep Hill

Fat lady rolling down a steep hill
The rumble she makes, my heart be still.
Listen, smell that? Watch her tumble
As everything below her sets to crumble.

Fat lady lands hard in a puddle
As she gives the little animals a startle.
Look at her, you cant clean her with a mop
As everyone laughs at her from up top.

Fat lady slips and falls down
Sending an earthquake to the town.
You can hear the dying screams if you listen
But not this lady, she’s on a mission.

Fat lady slides and knocks down a tree
There is no more oak as you can see.
She stands up to see a grave
She takes a picture of which to save.

Fat lady’s foot sinks in the mud
Into the mans grave as she says “O crud.
This can’t get any worse as the rain pours on
The wolves start howling and the sun is gone.”

Fat lady brings her leg up with a pull
Only to find she brought up the mans skull.
Today you can’t find it, even if you look
But lost in a book, is that picture she took.
